We generally assume ourselves to be a body with a name and history, with thoughts, feelings, convictions, and experiences associated with and derived from this body. Rose, as do all his traditional peers, states this is a false self-definition.
Rose says we should not trust this: "Man is not going to find reality if he accepts that which his body tells him, or that the body is all of him". The body is certainly important as a foundation, a vehicle, and a tentative reference point for beginning one's investigations, but he is saying it is a mistake to worship the body as the end-all of the quest for selfhood or that its experiences and perceptions provide infallible data to determine what is true.
The significance of the apparent inevitability of death in regards to self-definition is that even the highest wisdom does no good if it rots along with the brain and nervous system, or DNA-bearing chromosomes that contains it.
Rose comments: "These eminent states that we reach, all the way up to Cosmic Consciousness, are still experienced by an animal. But are we really animals?" (lecture, 1976).
Likewise, to speculate or even rely upon a perfected, spiritualized body resurrecting in heaven must be recognized as an evident bit of rationalization for holding onto one's Earthly self in some form.
Why would one need a body in what could only be realistically regarded as a non-relative dimension? Does heaven have gravity, air, food, plumbing, etc.?
To find Reality, the seeker must find that part of the self that really IS; the part that remains when all else is gone.
To merely believe that one has a divine, immortal soul is insufficient, if the one who holds the belief will die, and this soul is not discovered in time. If this postulated soul does not know itself in life, by what justification can we confidently assume it would automatically know itself in death?"

"Richard Rose was the first person to speak about getting your house in order. A person must "get his house in order" or become a good householder, Rose said, before any esoteric spiritual work could be done. His systematic, logical approach to life and the spiritual search was very uncommon in those days, and still is today too.
Rose did not ascribe to the "everything that feels good is okay" approach that is prevalent in psychology and spirituality. He said this attitude was destructive to the individual while it simultaneously created more patients for psychologists and psychiatrists. Rose believed in conservation of energy, hard physical work, along with study and meditation as the best method to "get your head on straight". Growth, he said, was not the result of positive thinking, affirmations, or wishful thinking.
He insisted that true "being" develops from action and effort applied in a direction. He called the process becoming a "Vector", a term he borrowed from physics. He was always reminding us that we had to act, and not just believe or think we were doing something." ~Michael Casari
"What Rose meant by getting your house in order is having your mind and body in such a clear still calm place that you're able to navigate standard reality. It seems mundane. It seems like simple fundamental stuff, but getting your house in order is the first step and it’s really important.
Getting your house in order doesn't sound like it's spiritual but it is. And it's the thing that the whole spiritual community, especially the new agers, tries to avoid. They try to deny what's going on. They try to meditate their concerns away. They run off to India. As opposed to ask themselves: Hey where am I having trouble right now in my basic day-to-day reality? let's transform that!
As soon as you transform those basic day-to-day concerns then you can start transforming bigger and bigger and then bigger things." ~Howdie Mickoski
